CACC STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETS

September 27, 2006

NEW HAVEN - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) met at Bloomfield College on Friday, Sept. 22, to discuss its role within the conference, future initiatives and to elect officers for the 2006-07 academic year. This was the first of two in-person meetings for the SAAC and the group will also take part in two telephone conferences this year.

The group discussed the conference's commitment to community service and how the SAAC can help lead the effort. The National Division II SAAC began an initiative with the Make-A-Wish Foundation prior to the 2004-05 year and the CACC has been one of the leaders ever since. The CACC raised the fourth-most money among 22 conferences in 2005-06 and was one of only three conferences to have every institution participate. The Make-A-Wish Foundation will be a point of emphasis again this year.

The SAAC also revised its Constitution to clearly state that its goals will meet those of the conference as a whole. The group will stress academic excellence and community service.

An election was also held at the meeting and Heather Walker of Georgian Court University was elected President. Kate McNulty of Philadelphia University was picked for Vice President and Julie Sito of Georgian Court will serve as both the secretary and treasurer.

The SAAC will also be represented on the CACC website and the page is currently under construction. The page will include updates on SAAC initiatives, photos, news and a membership list.
