HOLY FAMILY ATHLETICS DONATES BOOKS TO LOCAL SCHOOL

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Holy Family University Athletic Department donated over 20 boxes of books Tuesday morning to Emlen Elementary School as part of the department's Build-A-Library Project.

The project, which started in August, was spearheaded by the school's Student Athlete Advisory Committee headed by Associate Athletic Director Robin Arnold. Student-athletes collected new and used books to be donated to the school, which will be used to replace their outdated library.

"I was so pleased with the success of our Build-A-Library project," said Holy Family Director of Athletics Sandra Michael. "It was a huge success for the students at Emlen Elementary School as well as the student-athletes at Holy Family."

During the presentation on Tuesday, over 500 students from the elementary school listened to speeches for Holy Family athletes.

At the start of the presentation, the athletes walked down the aisles with the crates of books for the students.

Members of the women's basketball team, golf team, men's basketball team and men's soccer team spoke during the hour long presentation.

"I was proud that we were able to make a difference in the lives of children at Emlen," Michael added. "It is my hope that they will become avid readers and that our student athletes will be more conscious of giving back to the community."

This is just one of many community service projects that the department has participated in. The women's basketball team recently participated in the Philadelphia Lupus Walk in honor of a student at the University.
