Softball: The Goldey-Beacom College softball team posted a 5-1 mark last week ? including a pair of wins over local rival Wilmington College ? to improve to 22-16 on the season and 10-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.

The Lightning began the week by sweeping the Wildcats at the GBC Softball Complex, winning game one 6-2 and game two 7-1. Senior Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken, NJ), junior Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE), sophomore Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA) and freshman Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) each drove in two runs for GBC while freshman pitcher Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) notched her 11th and 12th wins of the season.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Lightning defeated Philadelphia University 3-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two. Russell picked up the win in both games to increase her total to 14 on the year and sophomore Kelly Halfen (Newark, DE) had two RBI.

Goldey-Beacom capped off the week by splitting a doubleheader with Dominican College. The Lightning took game one 5-1 behind a two-run single from Frick but were blanked in the nightcap by Chargers starter Christine Statches, who allowed just five hits.

The Lightning conclude their regular season Monday afternoon with a road doubleheader at Nyack College. Goldey-Beacom will then travel to Caldwell College for the 2005 CACC Tournament. Its opponent is TBD.
