Weekly Recap of Goldey-Beacom Athletics-The Lightning Bolt

Golf: The Goldey-Beacom College golf team captured fourth place at the Dominican Quadrangular this past Friday at the Blue Hill Golf Course in Pearl River, NY.

The Lightning posted a team score of 327 (+39), which placed them behind first-place Dowling College at 311 (+23), Post University at 312 (+24) and Dominican College at 314 (+26). Nyack College finished in fifth place at 361 (+73).

Justin Jackaruso of Dominican captured the individual crown, shooting a 72 (E). Matt D?Angelo of Dowling College finished in second place at 73 (+1) while Calum Malcolm and Dave Croteau of Post University tied for third place at 75 (+3).

Junior and reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week Mike Tobiason (Wilmington, DE) was the top finisher for Goldey-Beacom, taking sixth place with a score of 78 (+6). Junior Nick Nardo (Newark, DE) was next for the Lightning in a tie for 13th place at 81 (+9), followed by sophomore Steve Cutler (Kennett Square, PA) in a tie for 15th place at 83 (+11), freshman Mark Agnew (Newark, DE) in a tie for 17th place at 85 (+13) and sophomore David Pfotzer (Newark, DE) in a tie for 21st place at 94 (+22).

The Lightning return to action Monday afternoon when they compete at the CACC Championships at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Connecticut.

Softball: The Goldey-Beacom College softball team posted a perfect 6-0 mark last week to extend its winning streak to eight games and improve to 15-11 on the season (5-3 CACC).

The Lightning began the week with a doubleheader sweep of CACC rival Holy Family University, winning game one 3-2 and game two 4-0. GBC then traveled to Philadelphia for a conference doubleheader with University of the Sciences and came away with a 6-5 win in game one and a 9-1 win (six innings) in game two. The Lightning closed out the week with a sweep of Molloy College at the GBC Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon, taking game one 4-1 and game two 4-0.

Freshman pitcher Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) went 3-0 with an astounding 0.05 ERA last week, allowing just one run in 20 innings of work with 22 strikeouts. She is now 9-5 on the season with a 1.59 ERA.

Junior Lori Knabb (Paulsboro, NJ) led the offense, posting eight hits and six RBI last week while senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE) had six hits and four RBI, senior Tiffany Frick (Wilmington, DE) had eight hits and four RBI and Russell had six hits and four RBI.

The Lightning return to action Tuesday afternoon when they welcome CACC rival Georgian Court College to the GBC Softball Complex for a doubleheader. Game one is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
