Goldey-Beacom Weekly Recap - The Lightning Bolt

Cross Country (Women) ? The Goldey-Beacom College women finished in seventh place at the 2004 CACC Championships at Belmont Plateau this past Saturday. The Lightning finished with 183 points, placing them behind Georgian Court (43), Nyack (79), USP (82), NJIT (88), Felician (120), and Wilmington (147) and ahead of Caldwell (204), Holy Family (226) and Dominican (237). Freshman Katie Lewis (Newark, DE) finished in 14th place to lead the Lightning women with a time of 22:04.35. Freshman Jessica Kaszeta (Wilmington, DE) was next in 29th place at 23:32.51, followed by junior Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE) in 41st place at 26:43.87, senior Nonhlanhla Maseko (Swaziland) in 49th place at 28:04.99 and junior Lu Lu Maseko (Swaziland) in 50th place at 28:26.96.

Cross Country (Men) ? The Goldey-Beacom College men?s cross country team captured third place at the 2004 CACC Championships at Belmont Plateau this past Saturday. The Lightning finished with 83 points to place them behind Felician (32) and Nyack (57) and ahead of NJIT (116), Holy Family (154), USP (164), Wilmington (198), Bloomfield (220), Teikyo Post (255) and Dominican (269). Junior Brad Paski (Wilmington, DE) was the top runner for the men, finishing in ninth place with a time of 28:35.42. Sophomore Matt Lang (Chestertown, MD) was right behind Paski in 10th place at 28:42.06, followed by sophomore Adin ?Chip? Lewis (Newark, DE) in 19th place at 30:12.25, sophomore Mickey Jones (Newark, DE) in 22nd place at 30:25.62, and freshman Rashad Matthews (Milford, DE) in 23rd place at 30:37.19. Rounding out the Lightning men was sophomore Brian Kirk (Wilmington, DE) in 24th place at 30:44.05 and freshman Alan Passwaters (Houston, DE) in 39th place at 32:22.24.

Golf: The Goldey-Beacom College golf team was set to compete at St. Thomas Aquinas at Pine Barrows Golf Club from Saturday, October 23 through Monday, October 25. Please visit http://www.gbc.edu/athletics/golf/ for complete results later in the week.

Women?s soccer ? The Goldey-Beacom College women?s soccer team dropped a pair of games last week, losing to Millersville University 3-0 Tuesday evening before returning home and losing to Holy Family University, 5-0, on homecoming Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Steele (Wilmington, DE) made nine saves in one half of play against Millersville and six in the loss to Holy Family. The Lightning return to action this week when they play at Georgian Court College Wednesday at 3 p.m. and at Nyack College Friday at 1 p.m.

Men?s Soccer: The Goldey-Beacom College men?s soccer team defeated Holy Family University, 5-2, on homecoming Saturday. Junior Bruno Farias (Recife, Brazil) led the attack with two goals and an assist while senior Matt DiGiacobbe (Newark, DE) added a goal and two assists. In addition, junior Jon Hundley (Landenberg, PA) scored his second goal of the year and freshman Brett Kirkland (Severna Park, MD) tallied his first career goal. Goldey-Beacom returns to action this Friday when it plays at Nyack College in its regular season finale at 3 p.m.

Volleyball ? The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team posted a 3-1 mark last week, defeating USP, Bloomfield and NJIT ? all by identical 3-0 scores ? before falling to Division I Delaware State 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Junior Norah Burdette (Ellicott City, MD) led the Lightning attack with 55 kills in 12 games last week while freshman Adrienne Melvin (Newark, DE) posted 51 kills (4.25 KPG) and 50 assists to help GBC improve to 15-12 overall and 12-4 in the CACC. The Lightning return to action Tuesday night when they play at Felician College at 7 p.m. before playing at Dominican College Thursday at 7 p.m.
