A Weekly Recap of Goldey-Beacom College Athletics

Cross Country (Women) ? The Goldey-Beacom College women finished in 22nd place at the 2004 De Sales University Invitational in Round Hill, VA on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kate Lewis (Newark, DE) was the top finisher for the Goldey-Beacom women?s cross country team, placing 89th with a time of 27:42.89. Classmate Jessica Kaszeta (Wilmington, DE) was next in 119th place with a time of 28:58.58, followed by junior Brandy Ash (Dagsboro, DE) in 168th place with a time of 33:18.16, junior LuLu Maseko (Swaziland) in 176th place at 34:56.20 and Nonhlanhla Maseko (Swaziland) in 182nd place at 36:36.60.

Cross Country (Men) ? The Goldey-Beacom College men captured 20th place at the 2004 De Sales University Invitation Saturday afternoon in Round Hill, VA. Junior Brad Paski (Wilmington, DE) was the top finisher amongst the Goldey-Beacom men, placing 58th with a time of 28:35.54. Sophomore Matt Lang (Chestertown, MD) was next in 79th place at 29:04.87, followed by sophomore Mickey Jones (Newark, DE) in 127th place at 30:18.09, junior Chip Lewis (Newark, DE) in 142nd place at 31:14.11, freshman Rashad Matthews (Milford, DE) in 146th place at 31:29.66, sophomore Brian Kirk (Wilmington, DE) in 150th place at 31:43.50 and freshman Alan Passwaters (Houston, DE) in 173rd place at 35:04.96.

Golf: The Goldey-Beacom College golf team captured the inaugural Goldey-Beacom College Fall Invitational Championship Monday afternoon at Hartefeld National Golf Course in Avondale, PA. The Lightning finished with a two-round total 638, which was eight strokes better than the University of Delaware who finished with a final score of 646. Junior Nick Nardo (Newark, DE) captured the individual title with a final score of 152 (75, 77) while classmate Mike Tobiason (Wilmington, DE) finished second with a score of 153 (76, 77). The Lightning return to action October 23 when they compete at the St. Thomas Aquinas at the Pine Barrons in Toms River, NJ.

Women?s soccer ? The Goldey-Beacom College women?s soccer team rebounded from a 6-0 loss to Pace University on Thursday afternoon to defeat Teikyo Post University, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Waterbury, CT. Junior Lori Knabb (Paulsboro, NJ) had a goal and an assist while junior Janine L?Italien (Newark, DE) added a goal and senior Kristin Johnston (Delaware City, DE) had an assist. The women return to action this week when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Millersville University Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Lightning (5-7-2, 4-2-1 CACC) conclude the week with a game on Homecoming Saturday against Holy Family University at Nancy Churchman Sawin Athletic Field.

Men?s Soccer: The Goldey-Beacom College men?s soccer team dropped a pair of matches last week to fall to 2-13-1 (1-4-1 CACC) on the season. The Lightning lost a hard-fought, 1-0 game to the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday before falling to Teikyo Post, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Bryan Rudden (Landenberg, PA) made 15 saves while allowing just two goals (1.00 GAA) in the two games last week for Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning return to action this Saturday when they take on Holy Family University in their annual Homecoming game at Nancy Churchman Sawin Athletic Field.

Volleyball ? The Goldey-Beacom College volleyball team went 1-4 last week, defeating Bowie State 3-0 on Tuesday night before losing to Wilmington College 3-0 on Thursday night, St. Anselm College 3-0 Friday night, and both CW Post LIU and Stone Hill by identical 3-0 scores on Saturday. Freshman Adrienne Melvin (Newark, DE) led the offense with 46 total kills last week while junior Norah Burdette (Ellicott City, MD) had 44. The Lightning return to action this week when they host University of the Sciences in Pennsylvania in Tuesday night and Bloomfield College on Thursday night. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Lightning will take on New Jersey Institute of Technology (1 p.m.) and Delaware State University (5 p.m.) at MBNA America Hall during the Homecoming festivities.
