CACC SPOTLIGHTS FELICIAN VOLLEYBALL PLAYER, LAURA PESKOSKY
Name: Laura Peskosky
School: Felician College
Major: Graphic Design
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Clifton, New Jersey
Why did you choose to attend Felician College? I decided on Felician College because the volleyball coach contacted my high school coach saying she needed a player that she could build a team around. I looked into the school, and the fact that it had my major and great location, convinced me that this was an excellent school to consider. After going to an open house and talking with the coach and players, I decided Felician would be a great opportunity for me.
Why did you choose to play Division II athletics at Felician? I chose Division II because of my passion for this sport. When I was looking into schools I felt playing Division I may take the fun out of the game, whereas Division III seemed more recreational. I chose Division II because I am a volleyball player at heart, I play the sport for the love of the game. I play for the little girl inside of me that fell in love with the game nine years ago. It is what keeps me going and I tell my teammates the same when they get down after a game; when you love something it becomes a part of you.
What is your favorite aspect of life at Felician? I love the dorm life here at Felician. I love my friends, they are my family away from home. I love the fact that everyone knows everyone and that when we have a home game, the residents make an effort to come support the team. It seems each team here always loves to come cheer on another team. I love being an RA and being a part of so many activities because I am constantly meeting new people. I also love the art department. Each and every teacher really goes above and beyond to make sure each and every student thrives in the field.
What are your plans after you graduate? I plan on keeping in touch with my friends from college because they have changed my life drastically from when I was a freshman here. College is truly where you find out who you are and who you are becoming. After I graduate I plan on further pursuing my career as a graphic artist. I really want my artwork to make a major impact.
Hobbies: Besides volleyball, I love to play any sport, I love to travel - I work to live, live to travel, camping, skydiving, going on cruises, water skiing, boating, going to the beach, amusement parks, Devils ice hockey, and anything outside.
If you could invite three people to dinner, who would they be? I would have to invite Jim Carrey and Robin Williams because I think that a combination of these two men in the same room would be hilarious. I would also invite Bruce Willis because he is another man with a great sense of humor and is apparently very down to earth (not to mention went to school in Jersey). Who would not want to have dinner with these three?
If you could be someone for a day, famous or not, who would you be? If I could be someone for a day, I would want to be someone famous like Angelina Jolie. I would want to know what it feels like to walk down the street and be constantly recognized, to have such a large sum of money, to be able to just go on a plane at anytime to go wherever my heart desires and be able to change lives through her charity to others. I think that would be a pretty exciting day, and just enough for me to experience the life of the rich and famous.
If you had free tickets to any sporting event in the world, where would you go? The Olympics. I love the fact that so many different cultures and nations come together to compete for one goal. The entire experience would be amazing.
If you could be the President for a day, what would you do? World Peace? I wish; I think that none of this nation's problems could be solved in a day, especially the big one of world peace. I think my main concerns would be to be a positive role model and stay on good terms with other nations. Other than that, I would want to learn as much as possible about the job and I would definitely love to see every room in the White House because the history that happened in and around there just amazes me.
Most visited website: YouTube
Describe yourself in one word: Spontaneous
Favorite Class: any art class or any class taught by Dr. Castellitto
Favorite Sports Team: NJ Devils!
Favorite Athlete: Kerri Walsh
Who is your Role Model? My role model is my grandmother Veronica Debiak. She is always someone that I can talk to about anything and she always seems to see the best in everyone. She is one of those people who is completely genuine. She has seen it all from coming to this country from Austria at a young age, to raising a family, to keeping the family together and happy. I learn from her each and every day and she makes me the positive, down-to-earth, strong-willed woman I am today.
Most Exciting Sports Memory: My most exciting sports memory in college has to be the fact that I was on the court the very moment Felician College Volleyball earned its first win ever in the history of the program. Being a part of that moment was beyond words. I can still hear the echoes of the fans screaming for us in the stands. I can still see my teammates jumping up and down in a huge mob in the center of the court screaming, "WE DID IT". I will never ever forget that moment.
