I Chose Division II: Ed Freeman, Wilmington University

I Chose Division II: Ed Freeman, Wilmington University

Name: Ed Freeman

School: Wilmington University

Year: Senior

Major: Business Management

Sport: Men’s Basketball

Hometown:  Washington, D.C.

Why did you choose to attend Wilmington University and play athletics at the Division II level? “I chose Division II because of the talent level and the competition is still high. I chose Wilmington because of the small class sizes and the one-on-one interaction I can have with professors to help academically.”

What is your favorite aspect of life at Wilmington? “I like that Wilmington is more of a family. The teachers, the coaches, and even the staff are willing to help you even if they are not directly involved with something you do. One advantage at Wilmington is the class scheduling. I can schedule classes with a great deal of flexibility, leaving me plenty of time practice and handle my school work.”

What are your plans after you graduate? “I want to get into human resources. I also want to go back and get my Masters, and hopefully one day own my own business.”

Hobbies: “I’ve sketched my whole life. I taught myself when I was young just so I could be better than my brother. I used to draw athletes from Sports Illustrated for Kids and sell them for a quarter. I also like to read human interest and personal development books; true stories I can relate to. And even though I haven’t been out of the country, I love to travel. Most of it has been because of basketball, but I love going places.”

If you could invite three people to dinner, who would they be? “First off, I would want my mom to be there just so she could meet the other people I invite. I would also invite Martin Luther King and Barack Obama”

If you had free tickets to any sporting event in the world, where would you go? “I would want to go to a World Cup game. It wouldn’t be in this country, so that would help me travel, and all the teams that make it are good so I wouldn’t mind who it would be.”

If you could be the President for a day, what would you do? “I wouldn’t do anything as a president, but I would play President Obama 1-on-1 for his job!”

Most visited website: “Facebook, by far.”

Describe yourself in one word: “Tenacious”

Favorite Class: “My favorite class was a history class I took in high school, no doubt. But my favorite here at Wilmington has been my international business class.”

Favorite Sports Team: “Washington Redskins”

Favorite Athlete: “If we are talking about all-time favorite athlete, it would be Barry Sanders, from what I remember growing up. If we are talking about current players, Derrick Rose. He’s so humble yet one of the best out there.”

Who is your Role Model? “Jesus Christ. I was raised in the church and he was the ultimate server.”

Most Exciting Sports Memory: “I made 15 straight foul shots when I was at Molloy College to beat New Haven. I missed my first two, but came back and made 15 straight.” Molloy won 70-67 in the 2009-10 season opener. Freeman finished with 19 points.

You’re playing 2-on-2, who would be your teammate? “If we are going with current players, I would pick Kobe. But all-time, Jordan without a doubt.”

If you were a coach, who would be your starting five… past or present? “Have to start with Jordan at the two. I would go with Hakeen Olajuwon as my power forward, and Magic at the point. To have a shooter, I would go with Bird on the wing but have Shaq down low underneath.”
