Name: Melissa Barroqueiro

School: Felician College

Major: Nursing (BSN)

Year: Senior

Sport: Cross Country

Hometown: Carteret, NJ

Why did you choose to attend Felician?
I chose to attend Felician College because it is a small, friendly environment and not to mention, it also has a really good nursing program. I also love my cross-country coaches and team, and I felt like I would be successful with this cross-country program.

What is your favorite aspect of life at Felician?
My favorite aspect of life at my school is that Felician College is not a party school at all. This makes me concentrate in my studies better. Although, if I do want to go out and have a good time with my friends, Felician is a few miles away from NYC and we try to go there as much as we can.

What are your plans after you graduate?
After I graduate, I plan to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse and eventually get my Master's Degree.

You are one of only two non-freshman student-athletes at Felician who are nursing majors. Describe a typical day (or week) while you are in season.
I usually wake up early around 6 or 7 am. I get ready to either go to a 2-3 hour lecture or clinicals at a hospital. When I get back to the dorms, it is usually 2:30 so I take a little nap until practice time which is at 4:30. Practice usually ends around 6:00 and I go get dinner after that. After dinner, I take a shower and then I work on my nursing homework usually until 12 or 1 am. Then, bedtime!!!

Is it feasible for more Felician nursing majors to be varsity athletes in the future? Why or why not?
Yes, it is because nursing can be very stressful at times and the one or two hours of the day at practice helps you to relieve stress through physical activity. You just have to try to balance your time and you will be fine!
