Faces of the CACC

Name: Silvio Censale Jr.

School: Felician College

Position: Assistant Baseball Coach (Pitching Coach)

Where did you graduate from and when? University of Miami (FL). Member of Class of 1994, but was drafted before graduating.

Did you play a sport in college? Did you win any awards for your performance? I played baseball from 1991-93. I once won a Baseball America Player of the Month award. I also started Miami's opening game of the 1992 College World Series.

Why did you choose to work at Felician? I saw an opportunity to develop a Division II powerhouse.

What other jobs have you held before this current position? I played professional baseball for 13 years in the Phillies' system, in Italy, and in U.S. independent leagues. I'm currently the owner and CEO of BB Underground, LLC, a pitcher training curriculum.

What is your favorite aspect of life at Felician? I enjoy developing the student-athletes.

Hobbies: Video and motion analysis of pitchers.

Favorite Food: Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.

Favorite Movie: 300

Favorite Book: War & Peace

Favorite Sports Team: J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!

Favorite Athlete: Bo Jackson

Person You'd Most Like to Meet and Why: President Bush, so I could tell him to bring the troops home.

Who is your Role Model? My parents.

Most Exciting Sports Memory: Playing in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

You've had a chance to play in two events that many young men dream of - the College World Series and the Olympics. Explain how these events affected your outlook on baseball and on life.

In retrospect, to represent my school and my country in competition is about the most meaningful thing I've done. The experience of sharing that feeling with a great group of teammates is something I will relate to anyone I coach.

Explain some of the differences between professional baseball in the U.S. and abroad.

Baseball is baseball all over the world. What made the most impact on me were the different cultures I experienced.

You've been very candid about injuries forcing you into coaching earlier than you wished. Has coaching been fulfilling for you so far? Why or why not?

Ooh that's a deep question. Let me first say that there is no doubt my career was affected by a lack of discipline, coaching, and health, and that left me with a void in my life for a long time. But I have found that I can create a path to success for young student-athletes to follow, and that has been very fulfilling so far.
