PHILADELPHIA, PA - For the fourth straight season, the Holy Family Women's Basketball team took time out to support a Holy Family student. The team participated in Lupus Loop 2006 on Sunday, October 29 at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. The Lupus Loop Walk, which was five-kilometers, raises funds to fight Lupus. Lupus is a chronic (long-lasting) autoimmune disease in which the immune system, for unknown reasons, becomes hyperactive and attacks normal tissue. This attack results in inflammation and brings about symptoms which include achy or swollen joints, a persistent fever and skin rashes. The Tigers walked in support of Bree Winslow, who is a student at Holy Family. This year, senior guard Kim Killion was instrumental in getting the team together to participate in the walk. "It's really good as a team to go out and support a great cause," Killion said. "Bree is a great friend of mine and she will give you the shirt off of her back. To give something back to her is a great feeling." The team raised funds to donate to the Lupus Loop, which will go towards the Lupus Foundation of America. "It's really amazing that my friends would walk for me," said Winslow, who also walked in the Lupus Loop. "I don't know some of them, but, it means the world to me that they came out and supported me." This is the first of two community service projects that the Tigers will be doing this season. During the holiday season, the Tigers adopt a family in the St. Bartholomew's Parish.
