WILMINGTON SOCCER TEAMS UP TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER
NEW CASTLE, DE -- Members of the Wilmington University men’s and women’s teams held a “Score For a Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday, September 25th at Caravel Academy.
Both teams took on Nyack College on the field, and wore special
pink uniforms for the
games. The men fell 2-0, while the women were victorious,
winning 1-0. During halftime of each game, local youth squads
took to the pitch for a mini-match, and the same teams acted as
escorts during pre-game introductions.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition had a table set up with information regarding the fight against Breast Cancer, and the soccer teams took donations and sold t-shirts to help raise money. Over $600 was collected to assist in the efforts to fight breast cancer.
Josh Ruggiero and Nick Papanicolas, head coaches of the women’s and men’s soccer teams, organized Wilmington University's participation in the event, which was deemed a huge success.
Wilmington's Athletic Director, Frank Aiello stated, "It has been a great experience to see our student-athletes give back and know that they can contribute on and off the playing field."
